Hey Mom-Random stuff on Kids

July 2, 2009 -A published research study in the International J of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity stated that children ate more, chose more often, and repeatedly ate the same Smaller snacks than bigger snacks. Now we understand the mini-size snack candy. Hook ‘em early!

The same journal published a study in June of 2009 regarding “Family influences on children's physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption.”

This study found that parental modeling of and support for physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption were differentially associated with these behaviors in children across behavioral domains and with combinations of these behaviors. Promoting parents' own healthy eating and physical activity behaviors as well encouraging parental modeling and support of these behaviors in their children may be important strategies.

Mom and dad need to get some exercise and eat their spinach!

Are your kids getting any exercise? The BBC reported on July 10, 2009 that
Sly children fool exercise study. Children taking part in a study to measure how much exercise they do fooled researchers by attaching their pedometers to their pet dogs. I also recently learned that “Wii Fit” exercise games are being fooled by kids. For example kids now sit and flick their wrist to beat the tennis game, oh well.

That's money well spent!
